My Story: How This Came to Be

Recently, as wildfires raged across Los Angeles, I was sitting on the upstairs patio of a local Whole Foods, eating my dinner, when I looked beyond the nearby rooftops and saw something that made my heart stop—the hills glowing orange.

At first, it looked surreal—like a scene from a disaster movie. But then the wind shifted. The fire was moving—fast. And suddenly, it wasn’t just something happening out there. It was happening to me.

I hurried home and found my neighborhood alive with movement—cars being packed, doors flung open, neighbors hurrying to grab what mattered most before a mandatory evacuation order reached our neck of the woods.

In an instant, panic set in. Where do I go? How much time do I have? What should I take?

My pulse quickened. My thoughts scrambled. Then I saw it—my Bible, its gold-leafed cover gleaming like a beacon in the chaos. Everything else faded when I reached for it first.

That moment stayed with me. Now that the danger has passed, I realize just how much that cover meant to me—not just as protection for my Bible, but as a reminder of faith, of where to turn when everything feels uncertain.

We live in uncertain times—when confusion and fear can overwhelm. I believe it's important to turn to God’s Word first—before making rash decisions, before following the crowd, before reacting in fear.

At the time, I had only made three of these Bible covers. One was sold to a collector at a recent exhibition. Another, I gifted to my brother. And the third, I kept for myself.

But looking back on that night—remembering that feeling, that weight of uncertainty—I realized this Bible cover was more than just something beautiful. It wasn’t just protecting a book. It was a devotional object—something sacred, something that guided me back to peace and clarity when I needed it most.

That’s when I thought: What if other people need something like this?

I decided to create some more. A small collection, each handcrafted with the same reverence, artistry, and devotion as the originals.

For centuries, Christians have adorned and protected their sacred texts with handcrafted, gilded covers—treating them as devotional objects of reverence and faith. From the illuminated manuscripts of medieval Europe to the gold-leafed icons of the Renaissance, Bible covers have been expressions of both artistic mastery and spiritual devotion—a tangible reflection of the sacred Word within.
